When Korea received its independence in 1948, it had not been an independent country since 108 B.C. when China conquered the northern half of it. Korea is located on a peninsula south of Northern China. Since Korea had always been ruled by other countries, they never had a chance to create their own ideas and culture. Therefore, Korea’s culture is a mixture of the cultures from the foreign countries that had ruled over them. Due to Korea’s lack of nationalist ideas from centuries of imperialist rule, North and South Korea are separate countries and are unable to unify.
Due to being imperialistically ruled for centuries, Korea was never able to create nationalist ideas; therefore North and South Korea are unable to unite and they remain seperate countries. While imperialism had an overall negative effect on North Korea, it had a relatively positive effect on South Korea. North Korea will most likely continue to perfect their nuclear weapons and once they finish, they will probably attack South Korea or one of South Korea's allies. This attack will probably lead to another Korean War and many countries, such as the United States, will most likely become actively involved in it. Due to imperialism, Korea has broken apart and another Korean war threatens to occur. |
